The Sun Prairie Experience:
Sun Prairie is a vibrant, thriving, and increasingly diverse community located in northeastern Dane County, just east of the City of Madison. Sun Prairie is known in the region for its high quality of life, its excellent parks and recreation programs, historic downtown, exceptional public school system, and progressive approach to the development and redevelopment of the community. The City of Sun Prairie has experienced strong population growth over the last 10 years, undergoing a transformation from a relatively small community to an estimated 35,000 today.
The Sun Prairie School District is made up of over 8,500 amazing and diverse students. More than a third are students of color. Ten percent of our students speak a language other than English. Approximately thirty percent of our students are eligible to receive free and reduced lunches. Our students are deeply involved in our community and are truly the pride of our community.
The Sun Prairie Area School District has earned a reputation for being an innovative and progressive school district specifically in the areas of equity and inclusion. Our district has partnered with the Pacific Education Group (PEG) and The Center for Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning over the years to provide direction in creating instructional and operational strategies focused on equitable outcomes and inclusive strategies.
Our district has been fortunate to be growing in the number of students attending our schools over the last decade and the Sun Prairie community has supported the school district every step of the way. The Sun Prairie community passed a referendum in the Spring of 2019 to build Sun Prairie West High School, a state-of-the-art athletic stadium, and renovate our current upper middle school into a traditional middle school, professional learning center, and healthcare facility for our District. These improvements demonstrate the commitment to invest in the future of our students, families, staff, and community.
